The New York City Health Department is under some heat for distributing a new pamphlet to drug users.

The pamphlet is nothing like you’d find in clinics or rehab centers, because instead of telling users to quit, the pamphlet educates users to shoot up the “Safe” way.

Wait, there’s a safe way to shoot up?  Where was this pamphlet when Kurt Cobain was around?

The Health Dept. has given out 70,000 copies so far, costing NY taxpayers $34,000.

Some of the tips it gives are:

Use New Syringes

Inject yourself, don’t let others inject you.

Never reuse needles. If you have to, bleach first.

Use with someone else, because if you use alone, no one can call for help.

If you haven’t used for a while, use less to prevent overdose.

Wash hands with soap and water before you start.

And my personal favorite:

Jump up and down to warm your body before injecting

Who is the Health Department fooling? Themselves or the users? There is no “safe way” to shoot heroin into your veins., and to even imply it is ridiculous.  Just imagine all these druggies for a minute.

“Hey, Butch….pause Maury, Im ready to use ”

“Aight, Roy, but first let’s study the pamphlet. We don’t want to do this the unsafe way.”

Picture them reading the 16 page pamphlet for tips, then washing their hands, and jumping up and down to warm their bodies.

C’mon, Health Department! It doesnt happen this way. In most cases, Butch and Roy are plastered already from drugs, alcohol or both. Meaning they are way too lazy to even find out who the baby daddy is on Maury, let alone take all the precautions to make their drug use safer.

And bottom line : They don’t care! They want to get that crap in their veins ASAP, and chances are, if you’re shooting up substances that aren’t meant for your body, you don’t care how safe you are being in the process….

Ugh, Im  imagining my little girls reading this, thinking there is a safe way to use drugs.
